Reaching Out,2024

Terracotta Clay, Acrylic Paint

In this project, I aim to address the stigma surrounding mental health, which is defined as "a set of negative and unfair beliefs that a society or group of people have about something." Unfortunately, mental health often falls victim to stereotypes and misconceptions, perpetuating this stigma. Many of these stereotypes are inaccurate, such as the belief that mental illness is a sign of weakness or that seeking help for mental health concerns is shameful. Using terracotta clay I created a person with part of their brain showing. In front of the person is a plate covered in negative sayings and thoughts. I plan to have the plate smashed to represent getting rid of those beliefs.

Bound, 2024

Stoneware, Chains

For this project, I created a sculpture of a woman's body wrapped in chains. In crafting my piece, I delve into the critical issue of reproductive rights. The work aims to express the significance of reproductive rights, particularly in the context of the overturning of Roe v. Wade. It highlights the loss of women's autonomy and the potential consequences of restricted access to abortion services.
